Could small modular nuclear reactors be the “Game Changing Technology” in the fight to reduce carbon emissions? (Podcast Episode #70)

podcast

In this video podcast I discuss the role of the social media in the unrest in Iran.  I also speculate about how the B&W mPower reactor and other small modular reactors might be a key to reducing CO2 emissions.

A 125 MWe nuclear power plant is still large enough to take advantage of economies of scale and small enough take advantage of economies of mass production. I wouldn’t mind seeing CANDU reactors go in this direction since they can also utilize thorium with fissile material.

I really like the idea of closing down coal power plants and immediately replacing them with small centrally manufactured nuclear reactors. This future limitations on carbon emissions, this could be very attractive to regional utilities currently burning coal.
